Why I Started A Blog

I love writing. No, that’s an understatement. I LOOOVVVE writing. Always have.

But I absolutely love people even more. I wouldn’t write if I didn’t know that somehow, through a shared love of writing, story, genre preference, values, etc., my writing wouldn’t connect me with cool people like yourself. (and if you’re reading this blog at all you’re definitely one of the coolest people I know 😉 )

Well I got to thinkin’ about how all these other cool people have blogs, so I thought why not start one? So I sat down to write the first post…

What exactly does one say in their first blog post anyway?

I thought and thought and decided I’d say this.

The Honest Truth

Let me be honest for a minute. (we all love honesty, don’t we) I was nervous about starting this blog.

First of all, there just might be some people out there who think Rolena’s a little weird. (and don’t ask my brother what he thinks of me, cause he’ll likely reply with a “yeah, Rolena’s like the mayor of Weirdville.” :p )

Okay, so I admit, I am a little weird. I sing Christmas songs in July and put maple syrup on my cottage cheese. (It’s a Pennsylvania Dutch thing) But everyone is a little weird, right? So we can be weird together.

Secondly, I couldn’t stand the thought of letting you down. You, the cool person reading this blog. I don’t want to let you down. Everyone comes to a blog with certain exceptions of what they’ll take away after they read a post, a story, etc.

So if you’ll give me a bit of grace, I want to learn to serve you and exceed your expectations. And you can help me do that! (Take note of the questions at the end of this post 🙂 )

So Why Am I Here Anyway?

The more blogs I read, the more I see there are two general reasons people have blogs. One blogger is there to promote themselves or their products. Their ideas, their opinions and their purpose.

The other blogger is there to benefit the reader. To connect over their ideas, their opinions and their purposes.

I want this to be a place of connection. Of service and exceeding expectations. To laugh over similar weird facts about ourselves. To talk each other’s ears off about our love of writing and squirrels. To encourage one another as brothers and sisters in Christ.

What To Expect

Two blog posts each month. A bit of my serious side. And and pinch of my craziness. You may also be the first people in the world to read never seen before bits of Rolena’s stories. (if you’re curious about what Rolena writes, send me a message. I’m always ecstatic to talk about writing!)

You can also expect lots of questions. I love questions! I’ll probably ask you a lot of them. And you may feel free to ask me a lot as well. (I guess it’s only fair if I bombard you with loads of questions to let you do the same.)

So when you stop by my blog, just think of it as a giant just because party. I’m just the host and ya’ll are my guests. Please make yourself at home. (The plus side is that all my parties include balloons and ice cream people!)

So welcome to the party. I hope you stay long enough to chat and enjoy some ice cream. I want this blog to provide a place to share, learn and grow. A place to connect over similar interests and to spur each other on to love and good works.

Wahoo!! First blog post ever! Now for the questions I’ve been waiting to ask for the past 550 words.

What’s one weird fact about you that’s… weird? 🙂 Imagine your ideal blog. What’s one thing you’d like to see more of? (Blog post topics, interaction with the blogger, giveaways, etc.)

  1. Hmm…well, one weird fact about me is that I like K-Pop music. (Korean Pop music.) I’m also learning the language, which may or may not make that fact weirder.

As for my ideal blog…probably one where the writer talks cozily about writing and shares little stories and stuff. I like stories. 🙂

    1. You’re learning Korean?! Way to go! I don’t think I know anyone who knows Korean. Now I know who to come to when I need an interpreter 😉
Mmm… stories. One of the best things in the world. Thanks for stopping by the just-because-party!

  2. A weird fact? Well, I much prefer sour cream than chip dip when it comes to potato chips. Weird, huh?
As for questions . . . Well I would love to know what inspires you when writing. Music? Other people’s stories? Art?

    1. You dip your ‘tater chips in sour cream too?! (that adds another weird fact to my list 😉 )
What inspires me when writing? Yes to music. (I like to pick tracks that fit the scene’s tone 🙂 ) Well planned writing sessions keep me inspired. (meaning I already brainstormed and roughly organized what should come next in my story before I sit down to write.) And really large bowls of ice cream. 🙂
Oh, and I’m so glad you’re here 😀

  3. I love your blog already, Rolena. Such a great idea! *Takes some ice-cream*

I guess one weird fact would be that I don’t wear shoes when I can help it. I’m like a tall hobbit. 🙂 I don’t think I have an ideal blog, though interaction with the blog author is always a plus. 🙂

*Raises a hand* What genre do you write?

    1. Yay! A fellow barefoot, tall hobbit, ice cream lover! (Strawberry, vanilla or chocolate? 🙂 )

As for genre. It was all historical fiction. Until 2017. Now I’m writing a Sci-fi which is quickly turning dystopian. It’s definitely shaking things up a bit 🙂
And what genre do you write?
Thanks for stopping by the just-because-party!

      1. Oooo, Vanilla. Mixed with chocolate chips.

Wow that’s a bit of a change. 🙂 Are you having fun with it so far?

        I enjoy fantasy. 🙂

      2. Yum! Chocolate chips make everything better. 🙂

I’m having loads of fun with it so far. 🙂 My downfall is that my sister says I keep using Old English terms in the dialogue XD don’t think that’s gonna work out so well.

  4. Weird fact: I like hugs more than almost anyone else I know.
Ideal blog? A blog where the writer is super honest: about themselves, life, struggles. And also, the posts aren’t too long, because let’s be honest… It’s hard to keep up with blogs. And nobody has time to read like 10,000 word posts. 😉 And that encourages me to be better: at writing, living, loving Jesus, whatever. Just better.
    No high expectations, though, right?

  5. Hmmmmmm….. Weird fact…..Well I’ve wanted to be a midwife since I was like 11 which means you’ll find my head buried in nursing text books when I’m not farming or writing. 🙂
I agree with Ms. Megan, shorter and sweet blog posts. When I see a long blog post I don’t even take time to try and read it. Your blog is very artistic and writerly exciting! (other weird fact I make words up all the time. ;P )

  6. I like your blog name and the color teal makes any blog cool in my opinion. 😉

Weird fact about me is that I’m a combination of being right and left handed (I write/draw with my left but do everything else with my right).

Best wishes on your blogging journey!

  7. Really nice blog, Rolena. 🙂
One weird fact… hm. I can fall asleep just about anywhere— including but not limited to the floor— at any random time. XD
As for tips about blogs… I really don’t have much. I like medium length posts… and a random assortment of material to keep me guessing and surprise me, I suppose. 😉

    1. Kate! I’m so glad you’re here!
Got any tips for how to fall asleep on the spot? 😉 Haha! That’d come in handy some days when I feel like I can’t keep my eyes open.
Ooo, random. I love random 🙂

      1. Honestly I think I must be part hedgehog. I’ve never had trouble falling asleep when I want to, and yet I’m never sleepy when I don’t need to be. Other people fall asleep during movies, or long speeches… I’ve never had a problem with that. 😛
So yeah, that must be it. I’m part hedgehog. *nods*

  8. Love the scheme. . . although I can’t seem to follow your blog through wordpress. (That’s what I do so I can make sure I go and check up on my own blog periodically)

Weird Fact: I like almost every genre of music.. . .

    1. (My dashboard says your following me through wordpress if that helps 🙂 ) I snooped around your blog a bit. Good things over there. I’ll be back to snoop around some more later.
Now you’ve got me curious… do you even like polka? :p

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I do like polka. I don’t listen to it all the time but I enjoy it. The only two things I can’t stand are certain country songs (maybe 20%) and the jazz that seems to have no time signature.

  9. Hi Rolena! I love this thing already…I’m! So! Excited!

Oh, and one weird thing about me….there’s a lot, let me think…I’ll do two.
I reference anything and everything in any given opportunity! Adventures in Odyssey, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Aetherlight, Narnia, anything that strikes my fancy!
I also know at least one word in over 20 languages!

    Like

    1. Ah! I’m so glad you’re here! 😀
Yes, the references… we need to get together and reference things… together! :p
Whoa, that’s a lot of languages! I’d love to hear those words too.
Thanks for coming to the just-because-party!
